Saint Martin

Located east of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, Saint-Martin is an overseas collectivity of France that occupies the northern sixty percent of the island of Saint Martin. The lower portion, Sint Maarten, is a constituent country that is part of Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The political divide between the two countries is reflected in the character of the island itself. Sint Maarten hums with the activities of its many luxury beach resorts, bustling nightclubs, and bright casinos, while Saint-Martin offers a laidback and carefree spirit and its fair share of luxury villa rentals. Nevertheless, the two divisions enjoy a common denominator of being surrounded by white-sand beaches and the aquamarine waters of the Caribbean Sea.

The French influence is evident on Saint-Martin; throughout the island, tourists will witness notes of its European heritage in both culture and aesthetics. Its seafront towns are reminiscent of Mediterranean fishing villages, with their brightly colored houses and sailboats bobbing on the crystal-clear waters of the sea. Shops and restaurants in Marigot- the island’s capital- even feature blue-and-white-striped awnings and other aesthetics inspired by the French Riviera.

On top of offering luxury vacation amenities and destinations for aquatic activities like swimming, diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, and sailing, Saint-Martin is also a great place to shop and to dine. The gustatory choices here are especially remarkable, thanks to the intermingling of the French and Caribbean culinary traditions.

Planning to visit Saint-Martin soon? Take a pick from Villaway’s extensive selection of luxury rental homes today and delight in the relaxing splendor of this French territory in the Caribbean.
