Moose Tracks Lodge represents the upper echelon of mountain homes at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. A stone estate on a thickly forested acre, its a captivating retreat where fragrant lodgepole pines shimmer with birds in summer, while slumbering quietly in the winter under a heavy blanket of snow.
The road to Moose Tracks Lodge begins in Teton Village, and winds up toward the sky. At a curve in the road, two driveway entrances bring you to the grand and welcoming Moose Tracks porte-cochere. Covered walkways lead to the arched front door and a lovely stone and log guest cabin.
Moose Tracks is a large and sumptuous property that can sleep up to 17 fortunate people, with plenty of space for both entertaining and quiet privacy. The entry landing steps down into a Great Hall, the grand heart of the house. Stone walls and pillars, massive reclaimed wood rafters and a huge fireplace lend an almost medieval feel to this majestic space, and yet the cozy furniture, modern art, rich rugs and ample clear mountain light - plus every modern convenience keep the house firmly in the 21st Century. A game table stands beneath the big picture windows, while a stone bar is set into an alcove near the foyer.
The kitchen, charming and inviting, warmed by a stone fireplace of its own, is just off the Great Hall. Big copper pots call for a warm soup or a hearty chili, served by the fire on the worn wood table. There are refrigeration drawers and a full size refrigerator, wall ovens, a huge walk-in pantry, and a kitchen desk. A small deck with a grill is just off of the kitchen and around the corner from the kitchen island, youll find the large equipment room, the laundry room, and the garage.
Two doors flank the Great Hall fireplace, both lead to the master suite, a spacious, log-walled group of rooms fit for a woodland emperor. The twigged king bed stands beneath a high, trussed ceiling. Pines sway beyond the big windows, sifted with sunlight. Built in bookshelves are stocked with interesting volumes. Steps away is a small extra room equally suited for yoga or contemplation as for a nursery. Say the word and The Clear Creek Group will be happy to set up a crib, changing table and anything else you might need here for your baby.
The master bath is a gorgeous, two-room affair, flanked by walk-in closets, with double sinks, a sit-down vanity, and a separate chamber for the soaking tub, shower and toilet.
The snug master den is the ideal place for story time, movie night and, of course, game day. Bookshelves are built into the walls, and deep leather armchairs face the large flat screen TV and the fireplace. Just off the den is a private, fully wired alcove office and the entrance to the master bedroom and bath.
Stairs from the Great Room lead down to the generous guest floor. Here, four spacious, appealing bedrooms each have a private bathroom. Two guest rooms have a single king bed, two others have multiple, cloud-soft berths but all boast great light, quality furnishings and piles of soft blankets and pillows. Two of the four bedrooms are down an art-filled hallway, where there is a sitting room with a TV, and a mini fridge, which can be stocked with drinks and snacks.
Outside, a covered, lantern-lit walkway leads to the guesthouse/cabin. Its a rustic, warm, welcoming little place, with a master bedroom and a delightful four-berth bunkroom, each with its own bath. The guesthouse has a tidy, functional kitchen, and its own laundry center. A small TV is set over the wood-burning fireplace and the cabin is surrounded by neatly stacked wood so guests need never run out.
Wanting never to leave is a perfectly reasonable reaction to a stay in Moose Tracks Lodge, but keep in mind the adventures that await all around you: Teton Village and the chairlifts are just down the road and the National Parks only a short drive away. The staggering alpine skyline, the wildlife that share the valley... you might very well spot moose tracks in the fresh snow outside of the eponymous Lodge, on your way in from an invigorating day
