Astounding views over the ocean and Grenadine Islands. This private villa oasis is a very short drive from the west and south coast beaches (4) and restaurants including Jacks Bar on Princess Margaret Beach and ten minutes drive from Bequia's east coast. Mangwana villa is a dramatic example of a new generation of contemporary Caribbean architecture, set in a truly spectacular location. The brief to the architect was to produce something with a high ‘wow’ factor that is very comfortable to live in with lots of natural ventilation. Designed by British-based architect Jake Edgley, who trained with Sir Norman Foster, the house offers her guests a unique holiday of barefoot sophistication. The villa's design is inspired by traditional Moroccan courtyard houses, where a series of intimate spaces surround water, providing shelter from the sun throughout the day and with cooling breezes from the pool. Each bedroom tower has a living space below and a private access stair. To the north of the courtyard a large hall provides eating and dining areas, and creates a sequence of spaces from the spectacular mezzanine entrance , through the public hall to the private towers beyond and then finally a huge balcony suspended high over the treetops. Looking south from a height of 600 ft down over the jewel-like southern Grenadines, the infinity pool has jaw-dropping views. The best views on the island from a private villa. Perched on a steep hillside in dense forest on the island of Bequia in the Caribbean Mangwana offers possibly the most breathtaking location on Bequia. From the wooden sun deck at tree top level, there are captivating 300 degree views encompassing Battowia and Balliceaux to the east, Mustique (only six miles away) to the southeast, the islands of the south Grenadines and Bequia’s own leeward side with its beautiful beaches. Watch the sunrise over the islands directly from your bed or the green flash at sunset from the west facing balconies. Imaginative Spaces You enter Mangwana at mezzanine level directly into a vast living area with vaulted ceiling, open- plan kitchen and magnificent 16 ft high Brazilian hardwood doors which in turn open onto the pool and frame one of the villa’s many stunning views. There is a peaceful walled garden on the shaded south-west side with a large terrace to the east for outside eating, BBQ’s and dancing. Mangwana is a family house with endless opportunities for fun and relaxation. It has its own games room and TV room. Amenities include table tennis, table football, a rowing machine and massage table, plus an area for petanque (boules) in the grounds below. Six Bedrooms Mangwana's six cool and breezy bedrooms are large and versatile. Two have king-sized beds whilst the remaining four have twin beds which can be put together to make king sized doubles. Five of the six bathrooms are en suite; two of them open to the night skies. All bedrooms have their own private balconys, over looking the pool on one side and the second looking outwards over the ever-changing seascape. Private Guest Wing Mangwana also has a private guest wing with its own kitchen and laundry room and two large balconies with breathtaking views.
