Havana

Havana, Cuba’s capital city, is more than just a luxury vacation destination. It is a feast for the senses. Housing a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982 and officially recognized as one of the New 7 Wonder Cities, it offers historic buildings, a wide variety of museums, cultural centers, vibrant communities, plus a flourishing appreciation for visual and performing arts.

The city can be divided into three distinctive regions. The first, Old Havana, serves as the city center and sits right at the heart of the original city. Founded in 1519, this section features buildings set in Baroque, Colonial, and Neoclassical styles. Aside from the city’s older luxury villas, attractions in this section include Plaza Vieja, Centro Habana, Malecon, National Capitol, the picturesque fortresses of Castillo del Morro, La Cabaña, and San Salvador del Punta.

The second and most modern section, Vedado, serves as the central business district and urban neighborhood. National Hotel, Havana Libre Hotel, John Lennon Park, and FOCSA Building, the tallest building in Cuba, are all located here. Last but not the least is the section comprised of the affluent residential and industrial districts west of the city.

Take a stroll through the cobbled city streets and view art exhibits housed in equally impressive structures. The National Museum of Fine Arts has the largest collections of paintings and sculptures in the Caribbean region. In addition, the city boasts several museums dedicated to furniture, glass, pottery, silverware, and other items that date back to the colonial period. If you’re looking for a fine performance for the night, head straight to the Great Theatre of Havana or the National Theater of Cuba for ballets and theatrical performances.

There are plenty of ways to get around here, but walking is the best option for people who want to make the most out of the sights. In addition, Havana offers a number of public buses to navigate throughout the city. You can also choose to stay in any of Villaway’s highly accessible villa rentals and luxury vacation homes to minimize your commute and explore more of the city.
