8th Fairway Under the Tetons is a gorgeous retreat; a solid, beautifully designed camp clad in rough cut pine and shingles, laid out in a classic suncatcher design with two wings extending diagonally from a central great room, like arms reaching to embrace the glorious view. Exquisite craftsmanship and exceptional design are the hallmarks here; the property, while new, was built to such high architectural standards that it feels historic, like an Adirondack Great Camp.
Modern, streamlined elements and lovely antique details throughout the house are highlighted by their proximity to each other: old double doors from a Victorian church screen a coat closet right beside the simple, pleasing glass and pine front entrance. A double-sided, see-through gas fireplace at the very heart of the house acts as a floating wall between the kitchen, dining and living area and the family room. Tall, elegant windows let the light and views in; a picture window perfectly frames the Grand Teton as if a painting on the wall. A door in the kitchen leads out to a terrace. A round dining table and upholstered chairs stand before the fire.
A wood-burning hearth centers the living room, surmounted by a gorgeous, hand-carved mantelpiece. To either side, glass doors open to the terrace, the 8th fairway and the mountains beyond. The library is two steps down from the living room. Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, with a built-in desk, line the wine-red walls; leather reading chairs stand before a bank of windows, which hold the Tetons in their span.
In the eat-in kitchen, luxuries abound. There is a walk-in pantry, a Viking microwave and plenty of storage space; there is a stunning Viking range, and two marble-topped islands, each with a prep sink, and each overhung by a globe-like pendant lamp. The television and family room just on the other side of the see-through fireplace - is a comfortable, welcoming destination, perfect for reading, napping, playing, and mapping out adventures to come. Deep, roomy armchairs face a wide flat screen television on the wall; a long, antiqued sideboard is stocked with board games, puzzles and toys.
The master suite is spacious and airy. A long foyer leads to a raised bedchamber, where the king size bed faces an enormous window and an equally enormous view. There is a gas fireplace; a private door opens to the terrace and the crisp mountain air. A television is hidden inside a hand-painted armoire. It is a great joy, at 8th Fairway Under the Tetons, to fall asleep to the flickering fire and the sound of the wind ruffling the trees outside. Two big walk-in closets open off of the master foyer. A few steps away, the master bath is an oasis of spa-like serenity. Two vessel sinks stand on a counter of tile the color of sea glass; water pours out from mirror-mounted faucets, giving the miraculous impression of emerging from thin air. A deep, oval soaking tub waits in an alcove. There is a roomy separate shower, and a private water closet as well.
8th Fairway Under the Tetons has two sumptuous, carpeted guest bedrooms. Both have doors leading to outside sitting areas and wonderful, en-suite bathrooms. One guest room has a handsome built-in desk and bookcase. Outside, a rocky stream - which can be turned on and off with the flick of a switch - babbles happily under the front walkway and around the side of the house.
8th Fairway Under the Tetons is part of the Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club. This top-ranked public course designed by Robert Trent-Jones II becomes a magnificent cross country ski course in the winter. The Golf and Tennis Clubs location, adjacent to Grand Teton National Park and just north of historic Jackson, puts it right in the center of Jackson Holes all-season adventures: snowmobiling, dog sledding, rafting, hiking, trail riding, and, not too far away, the epic ski slopes of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.
